Paralysis of Choice - Why clients should stop following digital strategists on Twitter.
A decade ago, I could confidently walk into a client meeting, present an idea, sell it, then go into production. They didn’t know much about “this digital thing” and trusted me to guide them.
Fortunately, I’ve been able to maintain my role as the trusted adviser. BUT, everything begins with helping them sort through the hundreds of tweets they’ve read about the myriad of startups, new tech, etc. I’ve literally had clients forward me Mashable articles. That massive data overload is leading to a paralysis of choice. It’s killing decision-making.
Clients, please, if you are presented with a simple good idea, do it. Doing less better is how you win. There is no strategy (or budget I know of) that will allow a successful Google+, Facebook, MySpace, LinkedIn, Twitter, Foursquare, Gowalla, YouTube, Tumblr, Groupon, Living Social, iPhone/Android/BB app, mobile web, SMS, QR Code, Augmented Reality, etc. presence all at the same.
